We are currently in a teaching series entitled; “Jesus... I want to know you.” The purpose of this series is to provide a Biblical view of Jesus’ life, mission, and heart. Today, we will look at Jesus and His mission. Derek Gentle once defined “missions” as the following: “Missions is when evangelism crosses cultural and or geographical boundaries.” This definition is a great start for us to began to understand “missions.” In addition, tWC believes that as Christians, we all have been called to live as a missionaries. This includes not just going to another culture, but being a missionary in our own community as well. If you have been attending this fellowship for any time, you have heard us say that we are a community of missionaries, a body of believers, a population of diverse individuals united by a common bond of having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and His mission. With that being said, Jesus left His culture (heaven) and came to earth (mission field) to present to us the love, forgiveness, and plans of His Father (God). Being a missional Christian is simply following the mission of Jesus. Jesus was the first and greatest missionary. The Bible tells us that Jesus came from heaven to earth to die for a lost and dying world. Jesus came to begin this missions movement in us (the church). My prayer for us is that as a body of believes who have been changed by Jesus, that we would take to heart, the mission to reach people... Here, Near, and Far.
